Developing a New Talent with an Old Friend

I have been working with David Ivory for over 25 years and I must say I have enjoyed it immensely.  He is a great friend and an even greater talent.  David is a Grammy nominated Engineer who has worked with great artists such as the Roots, Silver Tide and Patti Labelle.  Together we have worked from Punk to Funk and everything in between.  Recently, we’ve been working on developing a new artist with an amazing sound and even more amazing story.

Francesca’s father became a victim of 9/11 and since then she has become a part of the organization for the families of 9/11.  In the near future she will be doing a big gala to commemorate her father and other victims from that day.   She is looking forward to debuting her new CD at the gala; bringing together her passion for music and family.  I am honored to have helped write and perform on her album and I look forward to seeing her blossom as an artist.

Good Times at the Willingboro Jazz Festival

On Sunday, I had the honor of performing at the Willingboro Jazz Festival in New Jersey with two musical groups that are very near and dear to my heart.

I started the gig off with Urban Guerrilla Orchestra (UGO). From parties, to festivals we’ve been doing it big for a long time.

I also had the pleasure of playing with the Gerald Veasly Band. Gerald and I have been playing for together for years and it shows in the booth and on the stage. Check out a few of our many collaborative recordings here on pablobatista.net!

The Journey at the Kimmel Center

In the Fall of 2013, I applied for the Jazz Residency at the Kimmel Center. I am pleased to report that I was one of a select few chosen to be a part of the prestigious program. It was here that in the beginning in January of this year I, along with Dennis Guevara and Victor Pablo, wrote “The Journey.”

Fused with folklore and classical music, “The Journey” is a 60 minute long suite encompassing different movements. The labor of love took 6 months to complete and I am proud to say that it may be one of the most innovative, fresh and truly an amazing works I’ve ever collaborated on.

The piece was performed on June 21st during the summer solstice at Innovation Studios in the Kimmel Center. If you want to hear it, check it out on the Kimmel Center’s website.  It is one piece you’ll have to experience yourself to truly understand.  Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

2013: Reflections on Cuba

In 2013, I had the honor of winning a grant to work on music for 4 weeks in Santiago, Cuba. From the weather, to the culture, to the amazing sounds the experience was truly hot! While there I studied with Cutumba, a collective revered Cuban musicians.

Though I was there to study and learn, I was eventually asked to perform at the Carribean Jazz Festival. What an amazing experience!
